PHOTO 18

Continuing last year's Photo Quiz, who can guess the location of this Angmering scene of c1905?

Click on the following link to see photo:

I've also posted a couple of photos on the Angmering Bygones & History Forum - these are a couple of locations of cottages which I do not know.

That's interesting, DEGOO, but not correct. At least the guesses are moving away from central Angmering!

Not quite sure what road you mean, Derek. France Lane (also known as Patching Street)? No that is in the parish of Patching. But another good try. Readers are going to have to push the boundaries to get this one. Have some more guesses, but I'm off to bed now!

Incidentally, anyone interested in a brief history of Patching can find it on my very old genealogy site at:

or on second thoughts looking along the lane by eccleston manor looking from north to south on what possible was an offshoot of waterlane and the road junction up from the spotted cow now would be under the carriageway of the bypass

Interesting, but no. That's a bit too far up. Try re-reading my responses that may just contain a clue.

No, jammer, you have read the hint correctly. Well done. It is indeed SELDEN LANE. The boundary between Angmering and Patching runs up the lane.

In the following photo, also taken in Selden Lane - but at the steep southern end - the lane is quite recognisable:

www.angmeringvillage.co.uk/forums/forum_pics/18a.jpg

Many people think that The Fox PH is in Patching but it is actually in both Patching AND Angmering. The parish boundary runs through the pub! The bars and restaurant are in Angmering but the kitchen is in Patching!
