The consultation surgery for Angmering Library was held on 5 February. Did anyone go?
Because Angmering Library also houses the Children & Family Centre, it looks as if there will be no changes in opening times from Monday to Friday. However, it appears that Saturday opening times will be reduced - either from 9am to 1pm or 1pm to 5pm. |

I would have gone, if I'd known it was happening... and if had been held during the time I am actually in the village - but during those two whole hours on Friday morning I was at work earning money. Which I use to pay my taxes, which go towards paying for a library service - where else does WSCC think it's income comes from? BAH!
Sadly I rarely use Angmering library, due to the lack of choice and poor opening hours, and I would have liked to have had the opportunity to say so! Thanks for the link Jammer, I'm off to check out whether I can leave some feedback.
Edited to add:
I have just viewed the site Jammer has linked to, I urge everyone who cares about this to register their concerns, the plans involve reviewing (and in most cases reducing) the hours at most of the local libraries, including Rustington, Goring and Littlehampton. |

10 to 13.00 and 14.00 to 17.00 hardly seems like poor opening hours. Even with suggested reduction of Saturday hours it's still pretty flexible.
As to poor choice I've never found a problem. Either ask the staff to get you a book or order online. It's simple.
Just something else to moan about! |

I agree with derekdainton, in fact this website and the WSCC website indicates Angmering library is open from 9am -5pm every weekday and most of Saturday. For a village, this is very good. I do not agree with NewGirl who thinks these are "poor opening hours.."
Looking at the WSCC website for opening hours of all the libraries in West Sussex, it is only the large towns, Worthing, Crawley, Chichester etc.. that are open from 9am until 6pm, so we have been very fortunate. Most comparable ones do not open until at least 9.30am, most 10.00am, and many close for lunch and have a closed day during the week and most do not open all day Saturday.
For parochial reasons, of course it would be good to continue our opening hours, but one does have to reasonable. I am sure WSCC are looking to reduce costs, they are obliged to do so in the current economic circumstances. This is a painless option.
10am-1.0pm. 2.0pm-5.0pm and half day Saturday is realistic.

I attended the library consultation on 5th Fe4bruary.
The head librarian explained : As with most cutbacks this is finance driven. The library sevice has to shoulder its share of savings. The proposals made for all the libraries are designed to do the least damage to the service.
I have used the library service since moving to Angmering 4 y ears ago and found it to provide an excellent service.
The inclusion of the Family and Children Centre provided refurbishment and extended open times.
The opening times, even reduced, are reasonable.
I expressed a preference for closure on Saturday afternoon.

I agree with all the points above, however here is my own personal point of view:
I work full time therefore the only day I can get to the library is saturday. Halving the hours on a saturday reduces significanly the time the library is available to me personally and I guess every other working person.
Not a probem if you are retired I suppose but there you go.
Just a perspective. |

Exactly, thank you Jammer. If you look at the proposed opening hours for our other nearby libraries you will find that there is no proposal for Rustington, Durrington, Goring, Angmering, Arundel, East Preston, Ferring and Findon Valley that involves being open beyond 9-5 on a weekday. And they all have reduced Saturday hours, so those of us who don't work close enough to a library to go in our lunchbreaks will all be there then - there are going to be some long queues.
Yes, Worthing and Chichester will remain open until 7 every weekday, but does everyone want to have to traipse over to Worthing to get their library books?
Yes, all West Sussex libraries provide a good service, I'm sure the librarians are dedicated staff – I’m certainly not knocking them. Of course we need to cut costs somewhere, but what leaves me furious is that not only is WSCC proposing to cut hours so that the majority of taxpayers have difficulty accessing the service, but they have a meeting about it when the majority of the taxpayers can't attend. |
