Hi All,
Dead in here isn't it? Has everybody jumped ship?

I was just wondering if anybody could fill me in?

I havn't heard anything about the annual Angmering xmas late night shopping this year.

I got the Angmering Advertising Directory (you know the one thats cover to cover adverts ) through the door the other day, and nothing in there about it either!

is it cancelled or invitation only

Agree. Obviously nothing much controversial happening in the village at present. All hunky-dory at APC!

The Traders' Evening is not being held this year - first time for very many years. I don't know the reason why. Does anyone know the reason?

Jammer, re the Angmering Advertising Directory, are you referring to the one also known as "Not a lot About Angmering"?

30 stalls are booked, I understand. These include a wide variety of stalls and goods: Jewellery - including the Pearly Queen; bags - embroidered and eco friendly and brocade; scarves and pashminas; candles; pot pourri; table and tree decorations and faux flower arrangements; children's clothes; moving bookmarks; handmade soaps; beauty products; handmade wooden items - including pots and weather stations ; glass items; abstract art on canvas and children's illustrations and name prints; painted slate and driftwood items; spinning and wool products; toys; original cards..........and much more.

We are wondering about the annual Christmas evening in the village? Haven't heard anything so am guessing is not on this year? Would be a shame, is a lovely evening and our son loves seeing the Fire Engine and Father Christmas! Sorry if I have already missed posts on this but couldn't see any :-) Merry Christmas everyone

TLP, see posts above. There was no Traders' Christmas Evening this year. Nobody has volunteered a reason why.

Christmas Craft Fayre due to take place yesterday morning at the Community Centre was cancelled due to the bad weather.

No doubt the Angmering Traders would say that business has been poor & they cannot afford to sponsor a Christmas evening this year. They should however remember that their future profitability or possibly even survival depends on the patronage of Angmering residents who are also suffering (probably to a greater extent)the economic downturn but may make future purchasing decisions both on price & loyalty.

The old adage "spending money to make money" springs to mind.

If however Traders really cannot afford to retain customer loyalty in this small way then perhaps it is time to consider shutting up shop as there are adequate alternatives in neighbouring localities to supply residents needs.

Thanks Neil, I didn't realise it is known as the traders evening. What a shame, I thought it would be something the Parish Council would run and support and really don't see why any of the traders wouldn't back it, seems like a missed opportunity.

It has absolutely nothing to do with money or business being poor. APC do support the event, physically and financially.

One Christmas, about ten years ago, the event was skipped and this is the first sabbatical since, there are good reasons for it and normal service will be resumed from 2011; hopefully for at least another ten years.

In hindsight, which is a wonderful thing, maybe once the decision was taken to take a sabbatical, a request could have been made to put it on the news page here, or just announce it in a topic. That may have at least prevented the non-contributary (is that a real word?) and totally unhelpful comment below.

Stuff like this reduces my (for one) incentive to contribute to this forum.

Perhaps Bram does not also know that up until todays date i have from my shop given out 37 Raffle prizes to groups in the village this year already, with a few more going out this week.

Also i have held a couple of raffles where profits have been given to charity.

Many of our shopkeepers generously donate raffle prizes for village events every year, and not just for the annual Xmas Traders' Evening. Even if they didn't, it would not deter me from still supporting them as, without our shops, the heart of our village would disintegrate. I therefore cannot agree with BRAM's comment on customer loyalty.

Many people in the village have been disappointed that the Xmas Traders' Evening was not held this year but will be heartened to know that it will probably return in 2011. As BFA suggests, in hindsight, perhaps villagers might have been informed of the position, but hopefully the disappointment shown by villagers this year will be indicate to the organisers the high regard in which the event is held and the enjoyment derived from it by so many of us.
