I have just looked out of my kitchen window and one of the 2 large oak trees by the community centre has fallen over. I'm sure it was standing when i arrived home at around 18:30 (but maybe i am wrong) and its quite a still evening. Any ideas? Such a shame

Welcome newbird and thanks for alerting me to the plight of the tree. There's now a photo of it on the AVL News page.

Looking at the base, there appears to be a lot of rot there. Kids sometimes tried to climb the tree as it was sloping. Perhaps this finally pushed it over but that would not have been the root cause (no pun intended )

Very good!! it hasn't looked very healthy all summer. Thankfully it fell when it did and in the right direction. If this morning is anything to go by its going to continue giving enjoyment to the local children even in its horizontal position. Some grubby uniforms before school i think!
Maybe we can have a new one planted in commemoration of the royal engagement or something?. Its a shame to see them go.
