As from yesterday ADC took over parking enforcement from the police - more here....

http://www.arun.gov.uk/cgi-bin/buildpage.pl?mysql=5486

There's been quite a bit of coverage in the Littlehampton Gazette over this move and I wondered if the CEOs (Civil Enforcement Officers) would ever make it to Angmering.

Maybe a "purge" and then disappear to concentrate on Littlehampton, Arundel and Rustington - and then, in time, just disappear from those busier places as well (bar the 'Pay and Display' car parks which they have always enforced anyway) which is what happened when we lost our traffic warden (just the one for the whole of E Arun) and the responsibility was passed to PCSOs.

Well, today, just one day after the move, 2 CEOs introduced themselves to us, they were just here to see what restrictions/problems there are, and they assured us they mean business!

If what restrictions we have, in and around the village, are regularly enforced for the first time ever (that I can remember) - what effect will this have on shoppers, visitors, local employees and businesses?

Obviously there is no coverage at the present time by any parking enforcement organisation.
There is a white mercedes van parked over night in the parade. The driver/owner in the morning turns up in a small car, leaves the car parked in the square all day whilst he carries out his business elsewheere in the white mercedes van.

There is a fair amount of coverage.

I know the van you refer to, it's here every night and all weekend, but I've never seen the driver. The van is always in the unrestricted bays and if the car is too, then there's nothing to enforce.

For the main parade there's only ever been one for half of the spaces (to the right of the restriction sign).

Good grief its about time our illustrious Highways Committee on the council got a grip on this. That is a diabolical situation. The other parking zones around The Square are only for one hour.

I am also pretty sure said culprit parks in other places all day. I am sure he parks outside the Co-op.

Not in the van - unless outside the restricted times.

The situation isn't as diabolical as it was - the spaces in front of the main parade had no restriction at all before the bypass was built and the others that did were never ever enforced - nor the yellow lines.

When the PCSOs took over the responsibility they were rarely enforced - but sometimes they were, which was an improvement; now they're enforced quite regularly.

Having 50% of the spaces unrestricted in front of the main parade still leaves 18 one hour bays around the village centre, plus a disabled bay. The unrestricted bays are intended for residents that live above the shops or nearby and people that simply need more than one hour whether that's to use the shops or not, the church car park caters for some of these people as well of course.

The only problem I have with the unrestricted spaces are local employees hogging them - and the problem I have is not with them personally but their employers for allowing it.

BFA, .......totally disagree with that comment.

It is not for employers to tell employees, whether they can or cannot park in these spaces. It is entirely the responsibility of the driver, where he or she chooses to park their vehicle.

It is for the employers to employ staff that don't do anything to hinder their customers - I make it a condition, Grahame Butt does and so do others, it's basic business sense to make yourself as accessible as possible and to see everyone else's customers as your potential ones.
