I heard they were building this huge support frame for an even bigger firework display!!

It's a new site for travellers, but it's no ordinary site, there's no entrance and they have to break in through barriers .... just to deter the riff-raff.

Could it just be that they are starting groundwork for the development for which they have had planning permission for a number of years?

It's an extension of the existing retail park which will be accessed under the road by making the existing railway bridge wider -
IOW imagine you are going to Focus DIY - you'll be able to carry on under the road to the new retail area.

There are rumours about which businesses will be opening there, but the only confirmed one is Chandlers BMW.

Well one thing is for sure. They are going to need more parking at that retail park as currently its woefully inadequate.

BTW are Chandlers to leave the village then? That should free up some parking here. Maybe we could have something useful at their site as well? Tesco express anyone? :-)

The original planning application was for 4 motor retailers. I know Yeomans Honda in Littlehampton were interested in moving there at one stage as they are cramped and much criticised by neighbours for causing conjestion at their present site.

A Chandlers' senior employee told me a couple of months back that Chandlers are moving to new premises on the site opposite Esporta within the next year. Their plot will probably be sold for apartments similar to those on the opposite side of the road (Water Lane).

Best way to check out Chandlers intentions, ask McCarthy and Stone.
