I thought id raise an issue and would welcome people's thoughts on why the following has and continues to occur in the village.
Currently the village has a single sporting venue, Palmer Road Recreation Ground. The venue is where a number of village clubs play, including the official village football and cricket teams.
From a junior cricketing perspective, despite substantial progress in the past 5 years, the development of the juniors side, business sponsorship, qualified junior coaches, welfare officers etc there is still next to no one from the village representing the village cricket team. We are currently mainly made up of players from other local villages and only a small percentage of the juniors side is actually made up of village children The cricket club has continued to place posters in village shops and noticeboards, articles in All About Angmering, the Parish newsletter and also on this website looking and welcoming new players yet no one from the village is contacting us about joining the side.
This is criticial for the future of our juniors side, as we only have a small pool of players to work with. We'd love to see new faces come along and at least see what we are about.
Id be interested to hear people's thoughts on why no one from the village is coming forward to play and whether there are other opproaches we can take to attract new players.
Thanks
Jim

Jim, I see no mention on your posting re. Angmering School. I assume the age group you are talking about would attend that school.
Have you made contact with Sports Teachers to encourage or make them aware of the facilities, welfare and coaching you are able to offer?
They will be aware of teenage lads who live in the village, who may be decent young cricketers. |

Thanks for your posting Bert.
A good point about schools. We did initially look into doing some sort of promotion at the Angmering School, but with some many local clubs i got the impression that the school didnt want to promote too heavily any one team. Our contact details are on the sports noticeboard though at the school. We are currently working with Sussex County Cricket Club on setting up a promtional session at a local primary school to try and get 10 and 11 years along to the club. This is obviously a start.
