Does anybody know what is happening to the old Country Fayre site?
Nothing much seems to be happening there despite all the rumours of some months ago |

ASDA have signed a 25-year lease with Angmering-based owner, Michael Wiggins. It seems that Arun District Council have agreed in principle for a new store which ASDA are hoping to open in the latter half of next year.
It is stated that 540 new jobs will be created (180 full-time) and iut will be a boost to the local economy.
The article does not estimate how many will be lost elsewhere as the result of opening a new store! I suppose the arguement will be that a new store is justified with all the new housing that is proposed in Durrington, Angmering and Littlehampton in the next few years!

I can only imagine the traffic chaos that a supermarket on that road will bring! |

Long overdue. Sainsburys & Tesco have monopolised the area for far too long.Hopefully now there will be some real competition. |

About time ASDA showed up bringing some better shopping to the area, will they be paying for the duel carridgeway to be extended from there to the station roundabout which i think is something we need to get the traffic moving i wonder!!!!! |

Sainsburys will be the biggest losers. Probably the scruffiest Sainsbury in the UK and the least efficient. No great loss.

If you look at the plans on ADC , you can clearly see that a petrol station area is being provided for. I'm all for it. Cheap petrol? Price war? 24 hr? Bring it on!!! |

""Probably the scruffiest Sainsbury in the UK and the least efficient.""
You think so ?????!!!!!
Try looking at Littlehampton and Lyons Farm Branches... they are a nightmare
and you will not find scruffier Superstores than ASDA...take a run up to Hollingbury or Brighton Marina

I think a lot of the anti Asda will be people who think Waitrose should have been there as it's more upmarket and littlehampton should have got Asda. Maybe they think it will lower the tone of the area. I also think that most of the staff in the local sainsburys are miserable! Having shopped in the Brighton Asdas I have found staff to be friendly and clean and well stocked but I respect we will all have varying opinions. The employees of Country Fayre who lost their jobs last Xmas eve Will I am sure welcome new job opportunities to the area. I hope it does not have a negative effect on our independent shops in Angmering. |

The father in law hasnt been the same since Coutry Fayre closed, hes had no where to go and buy cheap tat for everyone tee hee hee! |

Individuals will choose which supermarket they prefer to shop in, exactly as they do now. There will just be one more from which to choose.
We like the Rustington Sainsburys, we have no problem with it at all and is extremely convenient.
We will certainly not be driving to the Northbrook roundabout at Goring in order to access the new Asda. They may put in a right turn from the eastbound carriageway, but I would think it unlikely. |

The new store is good for the area. I agree, Sainsbury's have been very poor at times. The store is simply not big enough and the queues at the tills sometimes are dreadfull, it reminds me of Victiria station on a bad Monday morning. Good for ASDA, Sainsbury's might wake up now and give the public the. service they deserve. |

I think you expect queues Saturday mornings or other busy times but at Sainsbury's it doesn't matter you will always get stuck.
The staff are badly treated and it shows as soon as you go in the store. Soon they will be between two well run new stores and they will be in trouble. |

I have three friends who work at Sainsburys and they have never complained about being ""badly treated"". Some branch managers that have been through the shop have been better than others, but that surely would be the norm. We are not all the same. Some of the staff have been there since the store opened!!!!!??????????? |

It is no surprise that Asda are going to build there. A few years ago i posted that they had purchased the land and were also purchasing the old "Lloyds" building in Durrington. It is about time they were allowed in the area. |

I don't think we need to go into how terrible an employer Sainsbury's is. I have never heard anyone who is currently or has previously worked for them have anything good to say about the company or the running of the store. As for the managers they get through more than Chelsea! |

angmeringpaul....what is your evidence to state that, "..how terrible an employer Sainsbury's is."
Do you or have you ever worked for them?
Roosterbri's .."..three friends who work at Sainsbury's have never complained about being badly treated."
What facts do you have, (not rumour,) that they do not? |

i worked for sainsburys part time for 5 years while studying (not round here) - they were a hard company to work for, they expected everything and gave nothing in return
- they would not even let me have time off to go to my own grandfather's funeral
also must add that the local sainsbury's is heavenly compared to the ones i worked in which were dirty, cramped and horrendously busy city centre branches
i have always been disgusted by the appauling customer service in the local branch, some of the unhelpful comments and poor service i have received would have meant disciplinary procedures when i worked for them
bring on asda, hope it's a supercentre, maybe there will even be a big walmart sign like in havant! |

Well Bert theres one for a start and I don't know her!
I can also quote ten for every one of Roosters.
You can feel the atmosphere in the shop. I don't think Tesco will ever be "employer of the year" they are clearly miles ahead of their previous rivals. |

Angmeringpaul....anecdotal evidence is fine for both sides of the discussion. That is not the same as making a sweeping statement as if it is an undisputed fact that..."I don't think we need to go into how terrible an employer Sainsbury's is."
You say, "You can feel the atmosphere in the shop." Well I can assure you I do not. These things are purely subjective, you feel it, I do not, perhaps it's you or I, rather than the store. I always find being friendly and pleasant to the staff is reciprocated in this store, with I admit, one exception who does appear to have had a personality by-pass.
As 240felicia indicates "..the local Sainsbury's is heavenly compared to the ones I worked in..." (And even as a student, I would not have asked for time off to attend my grandfathers funeral, I would have told them I was attending.)
However, we have moved away from the subject. Good luck to Asda, but we will not be changing from the local Sainsbury's. |

Sorry to shoot you down Bert but I have direct personal experience of the company going back way before this grim badly managed store was first even envisaged.
Its unfair to say that 240felicia should have told them what to do whether a student or not. The "management" routinely use bullying tactics and when it gets out of hand they try to hide behind their company lawyers with their ill fitting suits.
As a member of senior Sainsbury's management once confided in me "the only difference between Sainsbury's managers and Sainsbury's trollies is that the trollies have minds of their own!".
If the atmosphere in the shop suits you thats fine. If you spend more than about £20 be sure to check your receipt as as often as not you will find any discounts or special offers are not recognised at the tills. |

Sainsbury`s Trollies get a 5 Star Rating compared to Tesco`s at L`ton and D`ton which is just about all they can be complimented for and their Chichester Store shows how they can get it right when they try! |

so a sprawling shed full of uninspring tat is being torn down and replaced by.... oh, hang on. cant wait till the spectacular vista from Highdown to the sea is punctuated by an aircraft hangar full of rubbish. Having previously lived in a town that welcomed a new Asda to its ranks all I can say it is dont look forward to enhancing your current shopping experience. |

Oh good god you lot, grow up!!
Asda coming to the area is obviously what quite a few people want. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on the subject, but i cant see how a run down dive of a garden centre being replaced by a new building on the same site is going to spoil anything except other local supermarkets pockets!!
And if the employers were that bad then why dont these people leave their jobs?? Everyone complains about their jobs, I know I do!!!!!! |
