In light of the Arun gov. notice 'Dont let bogus charities bag unwanted items' I wonder whether Parish or District Councils have ever considered supplying a service for clothes/furniture recycling collection.

I seem to get at least one charity bag request through my door each day and a substantial amount look suspect. A recent article in a daily paper showed the wonderful lifestyle of a gentleman involved in collecting 'charity' donations.

In these times of hardship I wondered whether a local parish collection, with monies going towards Angmering projects, has ever been considered or would even be viable?

I dont wish to 'cut the throat' of the legitimate charities but there seems to be a large overspill in the streets on a regular basis.

Now moved to General Forum.

Agree, we sometimes receive 2 charity bags a day. What a waste!

I tend to take my bits straight to the charity shops, rather than leaving it in the street for anyone to collect.

st margarets school recently sent a note home saying they're collecting textiles for recycling to help raise funds towards their new buildings... they have not given out bags though i expect they'd be happy to take any donations... they get 50p per kilo apparently
