I think it's a great pity that the Parish Council has not opened the Fête up to a wider audience of parish organisations. Their publicity reads:

quote:
The objective is that just before going back to school; the children and their families can relax and enjoy a fun weekend together, taking part in fun games, art/craft workshops, sports, and other activities, or watching/taking part in team competitions i.e. Tug of War, 5 a-side football, rugby together with displays by various organisations.
The application form states:
quote:
Describe what fun activity your organisation would like to hold (ie – tug of war, welly wanging)
I'm sure some village organisations would have participated if they could have simply had a stall of some kind. The application form makes no reference to organisations just wanting a representative stall.

I think a large section of the community will be put off going to the Fête as it appears that it is totally orientated towards kids' fun activities. If that was not the intention, then the publicity material produced to date is pretty poor, and I would suggest that something is done about it PDQ. If APC are planning to spend up to £5000 of residents' money on the event, I believe it should be targeted at the whole community and not just part of it.

..... and there is one other thing that perhaps someone from APC could explain. In their Policy & Finance minutes of 15 February 2011, APC state that the Council was resolved to underwrite the event by up to £5000. Anticipated costs of £4596 had already been identified and could probably held at that amount as organisations were going to be charged for their participation.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, the participation 'blurb' I received from APC on 30 March stated that "It is intended that this event will be self funding".

Explanation needed.
