Bentley's Café in The Square opened on Wednesday this week and already villagers have been singing its praises. Today (Saturday) was my first opportunity to visit the cafe and I certainly was not disappointed. The cake I had was fresh and absolutely gorgeous showing its Sea Lane Café parentage. The photos of the village from the past on the walls and of the Angmering/Poling Bentley and Field families certainly make it feel like a real Angmering family-run business. What is more uncanny is that some of the Bentley family were living in the same building in the 1860s. So, it has come home! Visitors to Angmering from the local area and from further afield equally will enjoy Bentley's.

While the new café still sells pizzas and pastas, there is a vast menu from morning breakfasts, a wide range of lunch and teatime options including main meals, jacket potatoes, burgers, salads, toasties, sandwiches, deserts, scones, pastries, and large selection of cakes. It is licensed too with wines, beers, and cocktails on offer. And that's not forgetting the great Naked Barista coffee, teas, milkshakes, and soft drinks on sale. There are many vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free food and drinks available.
The lovely big yellow awning and the outside tables and chairs on the artificial grass will also make it an attractive place for dog owners to visit. Lastly, I should mention the staff - they are a lovely lot, both friendly and welcoming - and always with a smile.
The café is open on Tuesdays to Saturdays from 8.30am until 5.00pm. To see the menus, visit their new website at www.bentleys-cafe.co.uk
Discovery Play Park (Bramley Green) - The Clerk explained that the reason for the closure was due to a recent annual external play park inspection where a lot of concerns had been raised over the safety of the equipment and therefore a decision had been made to close the park on health and safety grounds. The park has been in place for 25 years so has lasted well. A survey will be going out to ask people for their thoughts on what should be put in this area taking into account what is nearby and what is felt is needed in this area.
Assistant Grounds Person - new position - The Chair drew the councils attention to the supporting paper and explained the reasoning behind this proposal. This includes, among other things, being able to cover when the current Groundsman is off, potential to complete more work around the village and the download of valuable village knowledge. A short discussion took place. It was confirmed that further tree work could be completed in-house due to having 2 members of staff on site and there would be more cover for weekend events. Cllr. Marsh PROPOSED that increasing the Grounds Maintenance Team should go ahead. Cllr. Verrinder SECONDED and ALL AGREED.
New Parish Council Offices/Community Hub - The Clerk reported that APC were at a stand still and explained the current situation. The Chair explained that the Trustees (5 people) were not prepared to amend the lease boundary, allowing APC access to feed off the utilities (all at APC expense), extend the car park or sign a party wall agreement. APC were now looking more in depth at the utilities in the area because if the costs are significant this could prohibit the project. A company has been instructed to carry out a report on potential costings and councillors will be updated and the information will be bought to the next meeting
