Village Shops - goings and comings

On 18 July, The Stone Room, located in The Square, closed its doors for the last time. However, a new café - Bentley's - will be opening there, probably sometime in August. The name of the new café reflects its village heritage, the Bentley family having resided in Angmering and Poling for more than 200 years. As part owners of Sea Lane Café, I think we can expect some similarities in what food will be on offer including some wonderful breakfasts, home-made cakes, and scones! It is also understood that pizzas will still be available for parts of the day. We will bring you more details of the Angmering café later. But that is not all - the new business shortly will also be opening Bentley's on the Beach from one of the kiosks in the new regenerated area behind Littlehampton beach.

We regret to learn that The Butler's Pantry on Stubbs Hill, High Street, will be closing on Saturday 16 August, although Julia, the owner, will be starting a range of bread-making courses later in September.

Snippets from the draft minutes of Angmering Parish Council meeting of 14 July 2025

Angmering Sports Hub - It was reported that there have been delays due to ground monitoring and ecology surveys, and there is still a lot of work to be done behind the scenes. This resulted in the initial planning application being withdrawn. A consultant will also be appointed to help write the bid to go to the Football Association.

Office Refurbishment - Outside - The supporting paper was presented and questions invited. Several comments were made about the current state of the outside of the parish office and that it was in need of TLC - all agreed the work needed to be done. The Clerk did point out that more work maybe needed once work commenced but this could not be known until the work had started. All took this on board and the following was agreed: Cllr. Marsh PROPOSED that the quote to improve the exterior of the building should be accepted. Cllr. Verrinder SECONDED and ALL AGREED. The Committee Clerk will go back to the contractor and agree a date to start the work.

Speed Indicator Devices - The Clerk presented the supporting paper and gave an update which included identifying that out of all the areas put forward only three were able to be approved by WSCC, but that this does not stop further sites being investigated at a later date. The areas for the proposed cameras were identified as Water Lane, Station Road and Downs Way.

Community Grant application - Three grant requests have been submitted for consideration this month. • Air Ambulance Charity Kent Sussex and Surrey – £250 • William Older Playgroup – £500 • Tylers Trust – £500. After discussion, the following decisions were made: Cllr. Verrinder PROPOSED that a sum of £300 was granted to Air Ambulance Chairty Kent Sussex and Surrey. Cllr. Oldfield SECONDED and ALL AGREED. Care Home receives Veteran Accreditation

Ayton House, the care home on the corner of Dappers Lane and Water Lane, is delighted to announce that it has achieved Veteran Friendly Accreditation as part of the Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF). The VFF is a collaboration between leading armed forces charities-Royal Star & Garter, Royal British Legion, and the NHS Veterans' Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA)-with funding support from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust. As a veteran friendly home, they provide person-centred care tailored to meet the practical, emotional, and social needs of veterans. This accreditation means they are better equipped to support residents who have served, their families, and the wider armed forces community. To achieve this status, Ayton House demonstrated that they meet eight key standards of the VFF, including:

- Recording Armed Forces status in care plans
- Addressing social isolation among veterans
- Signposting to relevant support services

Join their Veteran Café every second Monday of the Month at 11am. There will be complimentary refreshments on hand, including freshly baked cakes prepared by their chef.

To RSVP or learn more about the VFF and Ayton House, please call 01903 254170 or email caroline.thomas@careuk.com
