Recently, as part of the National Rail 200th year celebrations, a temporarry 'blue plaque' (see below) was affixed to the window of Angmering station, recording the service of Horace Hayward, station master for 29 years. This was one of 200 blue plaques produced by the Southeast Communities Rail Partnership to celebrate 200 people connected to its railway lines. Horace Hayward, from a Littlehampton family, held the position of station master from 1901 until 1930, retiring after 50 years service with the railway. Horace also served as the postmaster at the station until the sub post office and sorting office there closed during his tenure.

Although its Planning Department recommended acceptance of Gleeson Land's proposal to build 190 dwellings on prime farm land east of Bewley Road, Arun's Planning Committee (comprised of elected councillors) listened to the approx 1760 objectors to the Planning Application A/154/24/OUT, and rejected the proposal. At its meeting on 11 June, the Committee voted 6 votes to 3 for a refusal with the Green Party candidate unbelievably voting to build on farmland despite the Party's policy to increase food production!
The "Protect Farmland West of Bewley Road" (PFWBR) campaign group has been instrumental in raising awareness of this inappropriate development which would not only lose nearly 40 acres of vital prime agricultural land, but would blight the lives of people living in Angmering and especially in Bewley Road and Arundel Road. It was also pleasing that our MP, Dr Beccy Cooper (Labour), also actively supported the objections to the development.
It should be noted that Gleeson Land have the right to appeal to the Planning Inspectorate against the decision.
