Snippets from the draft minutes of Angmering Parish Council meeting of 15 May 2023

Election of the Chair - Cllr. Oldfield nominated Cllr. Hamilton-Street to be Chair. This was seconded by Cllr. Verrinder and unanimously agreed.

Election of the Vice-Chair - Cllr. Hamilton-Street nominated Cllr. Reigate to be Vice Chair. This was seconded by Cllr. Hobson and 4 agreed therefore Cllr. Reigate was elected as Vice Chair.

Propsed new parish offices- Cllr. Hobson commented that she thought Item 11 minute 22/168 was slightly misleading in that she felt it read as if the potential new parish offices were going to be located in Mayflower Park. This is not the case, the potential new offices would be located next to the Angmering Community Centre.

Angmering Flood Alleviation Scheme- County Cllr. Urquhart read out the following regarding the flood elevation plan: "An update from Kevin Macknay re delivery of Phase 1: The Angmering Flood Alleviation scheme is currently in our construction programme for 2023/24. It is currently programmed to start in September 2023. This start date depends on ‘road space availability’ i.e. our contractor needs approval to work on the road; with the current level of work along Water Lane, this date could be delayed. We still have some work to do to ensure compliance with the planning conditions and that the EA are happy with our proposed method of working. The works are currently programmed to take about 6 weeks".

Electronic Signage Board - A short discussion took place and it was agreed that an electronic board should be looked into. This would be located outside the Parish Office. Action: Look into the possibility of an electronic signage board.

Sewer Connection - Mayflower Way and Shrublands/Sigma Homes site - The Chair explained where the site was located and the Clerk explained the request received which was ultimately to connect to the sewer pipe. An outline of their offer was also given which is twenty thousand pounds plus legal costs if their proposal was agreed. This money will go into the Mayflower Park improvement earmarked reserves. A discussion took place. Concerns were raised over road access and dust while the works were taking place but it was felt that this would be minimal and that the work was actually quite a simple procedure to undertake. After discussion the following was agreed. RESOLUTION: Cllr. Hobson PROPOSED to agree to this request. Cllr. Want SECONDED, 8 AGREED and 1 ABSTAINED

Honey Lane - The Chair talked through the letter received from the Honey Lane Residents Association and all agreed that the work undertaken was a massive success. It was also stated that feedback had been received from various allotment holders that the Allotment Association had not contacted them to ask if they would be prepared to contribute to the cost of having the road repaired. APC will contact the Allotment Association to find out more.

Angmering students become builders for the day

As new research reveals that the UK needs nearly one million new tradespeople by 2032 to keep pace with demand, David Wilson Homes is helping to educate the next generation of builders at The Angmering School. The pupils were invited to visit the housebuilder's nearby Ecclesden Park development on Water Lane in Angmering for an interactive and educational visit.

The pupils learned first-hand about the importance of staying safe on and around the building site, alongside the different jobs and apprenticeship opportunities available within the construction industry. The session also included an overview of the local housing market, and pupils were invited to view the show home, outdoor spaces, sales arena and a newly-built plot, where the staff discussed the improvements within the industry to implement sustainable and ecologically friendly technology when building new homes, from solar panels to swift nesting bricks.

Kimberley Benson, Sales and Marketing Director for David Wilson Southern Counties, commented: "As a responsible housebuilder, it is important for us to begin educating the next generation about our diverse industry, and we were proud to invite the pupils from The Angmering School to Ecclesden Park to find out all about our growing development here in Angmering. We hope that the visit demonstrated how exciting and versatile the construction industry is, and will inspire the pupils to consider a career in this field when they grow up."

Gavin Bowles, Careers Advisor at The Angmering School, added: "Our field trip to Ecclesden Park was a great opportunity for pupils from our Widening Participation Group to learn about the delivery of housing in Angmering, and the careers available within the industry. As our teaching focuses on sustainability at school, the pupils were very interested in discussions around the new technology being used to construct the homes in a more environmentally friendly manner."

This year David Wilson Southern Counties is creating a brand-new community in Angmering at Ecclesden Park, where the housebuilder is building a number of two, three and four-bedroom homes. Prices start from £369,995 for a two-bedroom energy-efficient house, and David Wilson Southern Counties is offering contribution towards bills on select plots.
