Old Angmering Photos - Slideshow

We feature in this slideshow 24 photos of Angmering taken between approx 1865 and the mid-1930s. The slideshow is in the form of the tour of the village in earlier times starting in Arundel Road and coming down into The Square before going up the High Street, down Weavers Hill and then into Water Lane. The slideshow starts automatically and photos change every 10 seconds but you can stop and start it by clicking the appropriate control buttons. "This is James Bradley's butchers shop in Arundel Road - now Aberdeen House. Bradley's was here from about 1900 to 1930 before another butchers, Woods, took over the business.

This was The Square c1903. The tall building on the extreme right was Dench's Stores (later Marsh's Stores) and Peskett's the ironmongers (now Angmering Framing) can be seen two door's down in the centre.

The High Street. Commerce House (left) and the small cottage (right) have gone but Somerset House (then Watlings the bakers) can be seen with the canopy over the shop front.

This is the old station which was replaced in the 1860s making this the oldest photo in the slideshow. The station was first opened in March 1846. It was also the district post office until c1920.
