Firstly I would like to congratulate who ever was responsible for setting this up. Hopefully straight answers to straight questions.

Can anyone at the council explain why the speed limit in Arundel Road increase as you approach a primary school?

I suspect it is also a WSCC matter but the question may carry more weight if it is raise by the parish council.

The speed limit outside St.Margaret’s school is 30mph, which is still the default speed limit for built-up areas. This limit is set as a reduction in the one applicable on the A27, with the further reduction to 20mph when approaching the village centre, rather than being looked at the other way round.

In addition, a limit of 20mph is applied outside to the school when the flashing sign at St.Margaret’s is working, indicating that the school crossing patrol is present.
A TRO (Traffic Regulation Order) for the 20mph zone to extend beyond St.Wilfred’s school is on the WSCC priority list, but this may take a long time as there is a massive backlog. The Parish Council tried to get the TRO extended past St.Margaret’s School, but the County Council did not agree to this because this extension did not meet the appropriate criteria.

The Clerk’s office is following this up to see if an implementation date has been agree yet and an update will be posted as soon as anything further is known.
Many thanks for your question.
