The Parish Council has been quoted £20,000 to rectify subsidence in the Play Area. They believe they have no alternative other than to take responsibility.
No one has stated the cause of this subsidence.
Knowing what happened on The Dell when it was being built, there were a number of boiler houses from the old nurseries that had been on the site and these had to be properly filled.
I wonder whether there is an old boiler house under the play area which the developers did not completely fill which has led to the subsidence? If so, should the PC be paying for the developers negligence? |

i very firmly believe that the developers are responsible for the problem due to not finishing the ground properly, however the parish council seemed happy to be fobbed off by them when i was there... i think they should be seeking proper legal advice from an expert, but they didn't seem to agree with my viewpoint unfortunately |

a playscaper is responsible for the installation of suitable equipment, the state of the ground being completed and prepared properly safe and without risk of subsequent sinking after handover is the responsibility of the development consortium.... there is no feasible excuse for making the villagers of angmering have to foot the bill for something caused by developers not finishing the ground off correctly... imagine if this sinking had happened under somebody's private home, the developer would be found at fault under the nhbc insurance, so why on earth should they get away with this just because it is under something that has been handed over to the responsibility of the parish council... come on APC, don't let them walk all over you and waste valuable funds, pursue this properly through the courts PLEASE

The playpark at the top end of Nursery Road was at the time when the developement was being built the point where the developers dumped the hardcore rubbish and here it stayed. This was evident when the ground source heat system was installed for the community centre. Now the area is subject to subsidence. This should have been checked by the then council when the site was handed over by Arun DC to the local authority. It makes one think what else could go wrong with the developement.] |

A small digression while we're on the subject...does anyone know why is there no play equipment on the entire development suitable for toddlers (bar the swings)? |

In the minutes of the PC's Policy & Finance Committee meeting on 25 May (published today), there is an item that reads: quote: The Clerk had been in touch with Wendy Ashenden-Bax at Arun District Council, who had indicated that she would look at the details and come back with a resolution to the problem. It was agreed that although there was substantial subsidence, this did not represent a danger to users and the Parish Council would wait for an answer before doing any remedial work.
I don't know who it was that suggested that the subsidence does not represent a danger but it certainly does. My toddler grandson nearly went sprawling there a couple of months ago and another small child lost its footing and fell while we were there as a direct result of the subsidence! |
