As suggested by Remarque, here is a new topic about shops in the village. What would you like to see? What should go into the bike shop. What is happening to the old Angmering news? Will Coop ever start their extension?
What do you reckon? |

Wouldn't it be nice to have a good quality Deli? If it was placed properly and had a wide enough range, I can't see why it shouldn't work. It would be great to have a proper, self contained range of shops, I'd much rather walk across the road to shop than brave Sainsbury's. I'm bewildered by the need for an electrical shop in the village but what do I know. |

Yes I agree Alyson, it would be lovely to have a deli/grocers/bakers etc. I guess once upon a time there was, but supermarkets and their ability to slash prices have seen to the end of those shops. It is a shame.
I'm bemused by the electrical shop too, never seen anyone in there, or actually seen it look open! But I have had a look in the window and they do have some nice wall lights that I quite fancy for my lounge! Thinking I might have to venture in one day .... |

Jammer, work started on the Co-op extension about two weeks ago. They are starting at the rear of the shop/stores first of all. Bakery is going in there when completed - there will also be a dedicated bakery counter at the rear of the shop. Building the new secure Post Office on the other side of the shop will take some time, so there is likely to be disruption in the shop for a couple of months.
Re Angmering Electrical, this is also an undisguised front for their contractors side of the business, Comtel Services Ltd. They do have some very good offers in their window. They are also extremely helpful in obtaining "hard to get" light bulbs or specialist electrical fittings. I've also heard good reports of Comtel.
Does the off-licence get used much? If not, that may be the next to go!

That would only leave the Vet which again never seems to give the impression of a thriving business. All down and the site can be redeveloped for residential housing (Perhaps not in current climate). Is that section all owned by one landlord I wonder.
Bike shop has much more attractive premises now in East Preston. |

How about a wet fish shop - no real fishmonger around for miles. |

Just imagine if a Ann Summers opened up, that would give the old pipe and slippers brigade really something to moan about, ohhh the shame of it [(#)][(#)][(#)][(#)] |

Nice to have a few new members joining the Forums. Welcome to all of you.
I did try to translate the Italian, but got a rubbish translation from Babel! At least the rubbish part was correct!
If Only knows all about Ann Summers! One of their parties was held at The Lamb in June 2006. About time for another one! |

You could be onto a winner there young Neil, Ann summers party in The Lamb (plenty of female models will be needed, contact Neil for application forms) with a few alcoholic beverages thrown in to boot, followed by either an Indian or Fish and Chips on the way home.
Sounds like a brill night out |

After enjoying a couple of excellent meals from our new takeaway (delivered to my door) I decided yesterday to drive down to the Big Frye to help its cash flow. Did I get extra excellent service and an extra large portion in the interests of competition? No. I got a fish that was okay, but a portion of chips riddled with potato eyes. I doubt that I'll bother to drive down again in a hurry. |

I have to admit that last Friday myself and Dirty Gertie wandered (so didnt have to park outside Alysons house )down into the village centre to try said Indian, the place was stacked out so we placed our order and strolled round to The Lamb for some light alcoholic refreshment.
I have to say there was a nice atmosphere in the pub that has made us decide to return on a semi regular basis, what an excellant idea to have over 21's only.
After returning to the Indian where the queue was out the door we went home and had a fantastic meal, i think we shall be returning there on a semi regular basis too.
As for The Big Fry i honestly can say we have never had a bad meal and will use it no more or less now the Indians here, if anything instead of having an Indian delivered from Littlehampton we can now walk to get it and a pint at the same time |

Not had a takeaway from the Indian as yet. However, never had a bad meal from the Big Fry - shame people have compared the two, in our house one will never be the winner - If i want a curry than it will be Shafiques if we want fish than the Big fry. Nice to have the choice but there is no real competition. |

I'd love a bakery in the village. I think it's what is really missing in Angmering. I'd much rather buy fresh bread every couple of days from a local bakery than get sliced stuff from the supermarket. |

Skippy, please win the lottery and open a bakery soon! Oh the number of times I have thought, in the rare moment I get to treat myself each week 'where can I get something yummy & naughty to eat'? A lovely quiche or cake or something ... special - do you think you could run to a deli too? Mmmm freshly made ham and cheese croissants with creamy mushroom sauce .... that's what I want!

Isn't part of the extension in the Co-op to house a Bakery??
I understood they will be baking fresh bread there each day!!
Dunno about cakes and stuff but fresh bread will be a good start I guess.

Skippy - you'd need to win the lottery - so's what you have left over and/or the interest from that, could sustain you.
It would be difficult to earn a living, let alone a profit, from a bakery in this village IMHO - unless of course you baked for/delivered to other outlets - had other stuff going on bar counter sales, as you'd not get much counter sales from outside the village and most villagers would go to Sainsburys/Tesco.
If Only - sure, 'fresh bread' would be nice. But I'm pretty sure this 'bakery' will be just like Sainsbury's 'bakery'
They don't mix and prove the dough - it comes to them ready made - frozen even/perhaps, with all the usual additives.
Smells nice - but it's no bakers - it's a place that warms things up.
No different to a Birds Eye Frozen chicken dinner! |

I've heard a rumour that Regency Patisserie are opening in what was the Angmering News shop. Quite small premises but presumably they will bring the goods daily from their Rustington shop. It will be nice to have that shop open again as since the bike shop closed and the vets is closed for most of the day, that side of the village triangle looks a bit lifeless. |

I was in the offie the other night and noticed people in the old Angmering News shop, they appeared to be geting it ready and there were new shleves etc. that I could see through the open door so the rumour may well be true. |

I hope it is right that Regency Patisserie of Rustington are taking over those premises, we think their bread, rolls and cakes are very good. It is a little strange though, with a small bakery apparently opening in the re-fitted Co-op. Rather like buses, none for ages, then two together. Will it work? I appreciate it is not Angmering, but I understand Marks and Spencer are having a Simply Food Store built on the BP garage site on Worthing Road, Rustington. If that is true, it is also rather strange as they have just shut 30 of their Simply Food, smaller stores, across the country. But we also like M and S food so things are looking up. |

My wife is having to take redundancy in a couple of months so we are tasting the serious side of the downturn,
HOWEVER, that was superb Mr Angry!
We could make a serious amount of money. Stick you on a stage for an hour, offend a load of people and get rich in the process ( I would only be asking for 5% as your agent of course). |

The staff in Regency Patisserie,Rustington confirmed that they are opening up in Angmering. Although slightly more expensive than other bakeries (especially the supermarkets) there is no denying that the quality of their bread & cakes is far superior & worth travelling for.I only hope that they have sufficient customers & remain in the village. |

I like what they've done in the co-op. The aisles are a bit narrow but I guess they are doing the best they can with the space available.
On the subject of outlets located in the village centre, I used the fish & chip shop for the first time recently. Yep, for the first time! My wife is obsessed with organic/healthy food and takeaways are only permitted during eclipses that fall within a leap year. As I waited for my order, I had the delightful experience of watching the guy behind the counter chewing food as he fried the goods on offer. Not a good sight and will not be going back! |

Visited the 'Big' Fry earlier this week for the first time in a while and wondered whether it should be renamed the 'Mini' Fry given the pathetic portion of chips I got. I noticed a couple of new staff in there so hope it's just a glitch until they find their feet, rather than a crdit crunch attempt to drive away custom. |

Commuter, yours had to be a one off.
We normally have too many chips, the portions are so large.
Often wondered if one of the ladies in there fancied my better half, but as I get the same size portions, it must be the usual amount.
Never, ever had mini size portions of chips from there. |

I hope so. The fish was a good size, so it wouldn't make much sense to skimp on the cheaper bit of the meal - hence my wondering whether it was just new staff not being used to 'big' fry portions. |

Very pleased to see the Regency Patisserie has opened, in the premises of the old News shop. Customers were queuing outside this morning. Very good products at sensible prices. I hope it is a great success. |

Yhanks for that information I must go and see what there is.
Have you noticed the new Florist at the bottom of the High Street (Stubbs Hill) ? They have some lovely things in there and I hope we can all support them.
