Rather a strongly named subject I must admit, however I am fuming over the recent happenings in the toilets of the Lamb.
When we opened we tried hard to ensure the toilets, especially the Ladies toilet, were nicely decorated and had upmarket soaps and hand creams from 'Cole and Lewis' In London, for our customers use. We also had a few chosen ornaments and some dried flowers in a small vase.
"Won't last" said a wise local, "they will have all of that stuff out of there in weeks, maybe days", he said. Well, he was right, the ornaments and the dried flowers were soon gone, maybe it was dumb of us to have tried to pretty the loo up in the first place. However, we never found out who 'they' were so we learned a lesson, screw it on the wall, anything else will be stolen.
The liquid soaps and hand creams from Cole and Lewis however survived as they were locked into metal containers screwed to the wall. That was until recently, when around mid May the Ladies hand cream bottle was levered out of its holder and stolen.
Ahhh, well we repaired the holder and replaced the hand cream, we thought maybe its somebody passing through the village who would be unlikely to return. Well, sadly not so, it was ripped out again the following week along with the soap this time, a double strike. We stopped refilling the hand cream and just replaced the soap. The following week the soap was ripped out again and the thief got a little bolder and went into the gents and ripped the soap container out from there as well. Whoever it was made a mess of the fixings and left both loo's bare of any soap at all.
That was enough, we have now put in industrial theft proof soap dispensers, unexciting but practical that squirt out a measure of soapy white foam. Not what we wanted for our Toilets, our customers have been punished by some small minded individual or individuals who are low life enough to steal soap from a loo.
So this is the explanation to all our customers who are wondering what happened to the fine soaps and hand creams we offered, bottles from Cole and Lewis, they are in a thief's bathroom. |
